"You know exactly what I mean. I heard you laughing at McCall's. You cleaned his house."
"I couldn't help myself. The poor dear would have been days putting such a mess to rights. I accomplished the same thing in a matter of seconds. Where's the harm?"
"I didn't know how to explain it: There's the harm. McCall's house was a crime scene, Josie. Lou could get fired if the captain finds out he allowed the crime scene to be cleared before the investigation was complete."
"Lou didn't allow anything. I did it."
D.J. gritted her teeth. There was no talking to this woman. "And I'm supposed to tell everyone that? Just mind your own business and stay the hell out of mine."
The angel's eyes widened at the ferocity in D.J.'s tone. For a moment D.J. almost felt bad. She probably hadn't needed to be so meanbut she was angry. Josie could become a real problem if she kept sticking her nose into everything.
D.J. turned away from the hurt in the angel's eyes and searched her dresser drawers in the hopes of finding something suitable to wear to Lasagne Lovers. Though the restaurant wasn't fancy, her jeans and sweatshirt were out of the question. She didn't pause to contemplate why she cared what she wore; if she did, she might discover her feelings toward McCall were becoming more than they should be.
"What are you looking for?" Josie's voice came from just behind D.J.'s left shoulder and she jumped, then glanced backward. Josie stood right
